INTRO TO PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY
One-week workshop June 2011 (exact dates to be announced)
This intensive workshop is for advanced amateurs and new professionals who want to work more creatively as portrait photographers. The course covers cameras and camera formats, including digital, lenses, films, and a variety of strobe equipment. Understanding lighting, both in the studio and on location is a crucial part of being able to create the desired effect you seek in a photograph.
You will gain an understanding of lighting patterns, and learn about the quality of light and lighting ratios. You'll learn to incorporate styling, composition and the photographer-subject-client relationships in your photographs. You will discover new ways to set up a portrait and establish a comfortable rapport with subject, as you capture intimate and revealing moments and true character.
We cover portraiture for commercial, retail portrait, editorial and corporate clients. Assignments this week include photographing your fellow students, local residents, and models. The emphasis throughout the class will be to develop each photographer's personal vision and style. Digital is encouraged but any format is welcome.
This
workshop is for freelance photographers, advanced amateurs and emerging
professionals who want to develop their skills in photographing people
as they improve their portfolios. Students should have a good working
understanding of their cameras and equipment.
